The Mitsubishi Triton is a compact pickup truck produced by Mitsubishi Motors. It was originally known as the Mitsubishi Forte in Japan from 1978 to 1986, when the name was discontinued in favour of the Strada. In the United States two captive imports of the Forte were sold by the Chrysler Corporation from 1979, as the Dodge Ram 50 and Plymouth Arrow Truck. Mitsubishi itself imported it as the Mighty Max when it began selling directly in the U.S. from 1982, at which point the Plymouth ceased to be available. For most export markets the name L200 is used, though it also been known as the Rodeo, Colt Bakkie, Storm, Magnum, L200 Strakar (badge used in Portugal since 1999, Strakar is a portmanteau of Strada and Dakar) and others.

The fourth generation Triton, built in Mitsubishi’s subsidiary in Thailand and launched in 2005, was designed by Akinori Nakanishi and is exported to 140 global markets. Cumulative sales of the first three generations exceeded 2.8 million units around the world.

“i MiEV” is an electric vehicle based on the gasoline-driven 660cc “i” minicar.

The i MiEV is a zero-emissions vehicle. Even when taking into account CO2 emissions at the power plants that generate the power needed for charging the car, it emits only approximately 30% of the CO2 of a gasoline minicar.

The cost per kilometer to drive the i MiEV is one third that of a comparable gasoline vehicle. Depending on the cost of electricity, cost per kilometer can drop as low as one ninth that of gasoline, for example when charged during off-peak or night-time hours.

Strong acceleration is achieved through a compact and highly efficient permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates high torque from a low speed.

Because the vehicle uses an electric motor free of the vertical vibration associated with gasoline engines, it runs extremely quietly.

Using the on-board charger, the vehicle can be charged with a 100V or 200V power source in the home. In addition, if quick-chargers currently being developed by power companies are used, it will be possible to charge the vehicle in a short time.

The fourth generation was introduced at the Paris Motor Show on September 30, 2006. New interior and exterior styling was accompanied by enhanced safety with dual-stage SRS front airbags as well as new side-impact and curtain airbags. The Super-Select 4WD II system was retained but is complemented by an improved Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC) system and electronic brakeforce distribution.

The engines were upgraded with the 3.2L Diesel now producing 125kW (167hp/170PS) and the 3.8L V6 gaining MIVEC variable valve timing to boost power to 184kW (247hp/250PS). Both engines meet new Euro IV emissions standards. The 3.0L V6 is retained for the Japanese and GCC markets.
