The 2011 model year Impreza WRX STI will be offered in the 4 door Sedan bodystyle once again after a three year absence from the STI line-up since the introduction of third generation model. The new WRX STI Sedan is built as “wide body” with flared fenders, front skirts, and rear valance, while the Hatchback model also come with similar treatments. The most noticeable feature on the STI Sedan is a large rear wing, characteristic of the last generation Impreza STI Sedan. With the new front bumper, the 2011 Impreza WRX STI is more aggressive compared to 2008-2010 models. The 2.5 flat four turbocharged engine with 305 horsepower is carried over, while tweaks in suspension will improve handling. The 2011 model year STI has stiffer spring, bigger anti roll bar, and new pillow ball bushings on the front lower arms. Also, US dealers are now requiring synthetic oil for 2011 models. It is officially claimed to do 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and the quarter mile 13.7 seconds. It should also be noted that, in Japan and Europe, the WRX STI models lack the Impreza name. They are officially referred to as the Subaru WRX STI 4-door and Subaru WRX STI 5-door.

The Subaru Impreza STI, (formerly WRX STi, officially changed in 2006 to STI) is the highest standard-edition trim in the Subaru Impreza compact car line, produced by Japanese automaker Subaru.

In the late 1980s, Subaru created the Subaru Tecnica International (STI) division to coordinate development for the FIA World Rally Championship and other motorsports activities. After the company had grown, the division was used to create high-performance consumer versions of the Subaru Impreza WRX, an all-wheel drive car with a turbocharged boxer engine, leading to the development of the Impreza WRX STi. The Subaru World Rally Team has used a race-prepared version of the WRX STI as its rally platform since the model trim’s creation.

The 2008 STI has received a higher degree of parts to differentiate it from its Impreza WRX brethren. Unlike the Impreza WRX, the STI uses aluminum suspension components, is only available as a 5-door hatchback, and has different fenders that are 2.2 in (56 mm) wider. It adopted “Subaru Intelligent Chassis Design” and “Dynamic Chassis Control Concept”. The turbo forces air through a larger top-mount-intercooler which has lost the red “STI” that was on previous generations. It is the first generation of this model with an automatic transmission which is able to import to outside Japan.

The Subaru Legacy is a mid-size car built by Japanese manufacturer Subaru since 1989, and is available as a sedan or wagon. Part of the original design goals for the Legacy model was to provide Subaru a vehicle in which they could compete in the lucrative North American midsize market against competitors Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Higher performance variants of the Legacy are offered as competitive alternatives to compact executive cars such as the Audi A4, Alfa Romeo 159 and BMW 3 Series. The Legacy also serves as Subaru’s flagship car.

Production of the fifth generation 2010 Subaru Legacy began the last week of May 2009 at the Indiana location, and was unveiled at the 2009 New York Auto Show. According to the Subaru website in Japan, the Legacy was introduced in Japan on May 20, 2009. According to the Japanese site on Wikipedia the Legacy STi will continue production. May 2010, the “EyeSight” feature introduced on the previous generation Legacy was re-introduced on the Japan-spec Touring Wagon and Outback.

The new for this generation Lineartronic Continuously variable transmission is used internationally on the EJ25 2.5 L flat-4 engine and the EJ20 in some markets, with a 6-speed manual transmission also offered only in North America and Australia. The 2.5GT uses a turbocharger with a 6-speed manual transmission used exclusively in Japan and North America with Australia being able to choose between the 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission; vehicles identified as “3.6R” use the EZ36 flat-6 engine with a 5-speed SportShift conventional automatic transmission. The Lineartronic CVT transmission is also shared with the JDM-spec Subaru Exiga on AWD models.

In 2001, the Impreza line received a complete update. The chassis received a 120% increase in torsional stiffness. The version nomenclature was dropped from the name. To distinguish between the years, Japanese and other auto-enthusiasts often refer to the chassis as GDA (the WRX had an ‘A’ where as the STi had a ‘B’) revision A to G where G is the current (2007) version. The wagon chassis is given a GGA code.

The WRX has received two styling updates. The exterior “bug eyed” styling was widely regarded as somewhat unattractive, so Subaru introduced a mild facelift (often called blob eyes or peanut eyes) of the front end in the 2002 Paris Auto Show. A third update was introduced in mid-2005, including the performance models, with the controversial “jet intake and wings” grille first debuted on the Subaru R1 kei car, along with new headlights (sometimes referred to as hawk eyes or pig nose and also “vag eye” due to the effect on the grille), taillights, and bumpers. Subaru states that they chose this style to go back to their heritage, paying homage to their grandfathered company, the Nakajima Aircraft Company.

August 2000 brings the 2001MY WRX NB sedan. It has an EJ205 with AVCS coupled with an MHI TD04L turbocharger. The engine produces 250 PS (184 kW) at 6000 rpm with 34 kgm (333 Nm) at 3600 rpm. The wheels are 16 inch in diameter. The car uses 2 pot/1 pot front and rear brakes. The front brake rotors are ventilated while the rear are solid disks. It has a torsen rear LSD and a 4.44 final drive ratio. The transmission has close-ratio gears unique to Subaru of Japan at that point in time. The car has a curb weight of 1340kg (2954lb).

The Subaru R1 was introduced by the Japanese carmaker Subaru on January 4, 2005. It was designed to fit within the Japanese kei car tax bracket. The R1 is a two-door version of the Subaru R2, but with a shorter body and wheelbase. The R1 is unusual in that it does not use up the maximum length allowed for by the kei car regulations—the only other kei cars to have done this since the 1989 Autozam Carol were the Suzuki Twin and the European Smart Fortwo.

The R1 was only available in one spec level up to the end of 2005, using a 658cc Subaru EN engine. The engine is available in three versions: the I with the EN07U SOHC 34 kW (roughly 46 horsepower) engine, the R with the EN07D DOHC engine rated at 40 kW (54 horsepower) and the S with a EN07X supercharged and intercooled engine rated at 47 kW (63 horsepower). The R1 is being marketed as a personal car and as a middle-aged couple’s second car; a combination of leather and alcantara seating is available. All R1s are equipped with a CVT, and all trim levels are available with front-wheel drive as well as four-wheel drive.
